The Shed
The past week was rather rough for our family. I had to work evenings so that mean dropping Hope off to her grandparents each day around 2pm and then not getting home till 1am. Jaken had to rush home from work to pick her up and then come home and she proved to be rather difficult for him unfortunately for the week. She must be hitting a growth spurt. Either way we managed to make it through the week and woke up bright and early Saturday morning ready to tick off one of our biggest projects, painting the shed.
We have mentioned the storage shed a few times and never really specified what it truly looks like. Back in the day when it was built it was a clean tan color with brown trim but over the years with rain, hurricanes, and just age its turned a weird dirt color with mold splotches and paint chips and holes. So we decided we would paint it a gorgeous barn red color with white trim. The paint finally came in the mail and Jaken’s grandpa came over with his paint sprayer and they got to work on the red. After a couple hours and a couple coats they polished off the five gallon bucket of paint and got the entire shed painted. Next it was my turn to hit the trim with the white. I climbed up on the ladder and started brushing on the white on every piece of trim on there. At times this required standing perilously on the lean to or the tippy top of the ladder but Jaken made sure to be wary and ready to catch me if I fell (which I managed not to do). A few hours later the shed was done and looked so shiny and new! Its incredible what a little paint will do.
Our buddy Josh came out to visit and helped us with the paint. While painting he found an axe decided to try his hand at chopping down a tree. After that Jaken taught him how to drive the tractor and they got to work moved the fencing equipment to the area where they plan to build it. He then hopped on the mower and took it for a spin before climbing in the bucket of the tractor and picking the ripe pears. We are totally sure if they are ripe or not but they are big and starting to look like you would expect a pear to look so they picked all they could and we are going to attempt to can them in a bit.
That afternoon we loaded up and ran down to the Tractor Supply and McCoys to grab some more fencing items and a pizza for dinner before meeting up at the house with Kristen and Steven to eat and then the boys got to work building the fence. We only had a few hours of daylight left though so they got everything measured out and started putting in the corner H posts. Once the sun went down we packed up and turned in for the night.
The next day we woke up and went to church before coming home and quickly cleaning up around the house and property as we had a call that some of Jaken’s family wanted to pop over to see the land and ride their four-wheelers around. We had a fun filled afternoon of visiting and riding the land before getting reset for the week ahead. Hope’s birthday is coming up so we are preparing for that!
