The Ranch Life
Well its been about a month of hard work and total upturn of a lifestyle and living space but boy has it been worth it. All the things we wanted to get out of this experience are coming to fruition. We got an offer on our city house just last night! Full listing price! What a blessing after a month of stress and preparation and questioning whether that was going to be the right thing to do. With it on the market for only 4 days and only one open house and 24 hours of showings we’ve got a buyer! Now begins the stress of the inspection and closing period. We have no reason to worry about anything but still anything can happen in our minds. We will just have to keep ourselves busy…
With CHICKENS! That’s right, we got some chickens. Buff Orpingtons to be specific. Six adorable 8 week old chicks. It is hard to tell for sure right now which are hens or roosters but we shall see. We built a little coop and got them set up with a waterer. During the barn demo we found the old feeder that Aunt Dixie used to have in her chicken coop which has long since fallen down and been cleared out. So far the chickens are thriving and seem so happy. Our first official farm critter. It will be several more months before the eggs come but when they do boy howdy its going to be wild. Mee-maw already sent over an egg carton for her future deliveries.
Also, you remember the kittens we found back on Easter weekend in the bed of the truck? Well after we returned them to their mother at Jaken’s mom’s house their mom decided to give them right back so his mom has been taking care of them till they got a bit bigger and now they are fully functioning outdoor cats. So we did what any good country folk would do, brought them home with us to be our “barn cats” Introducing the newly dubbed “Diesel and Smoke”. Gotta have good solid country names to do their hard job of keeping the property mouse free, or right now its cicada free…
To keep up with the ranching lifestyle Jaken went ahead and joined the rodeo…or at least he attended a rodeo school. Sankey Rodeo School over in New Caney to be exact. A thrilling three days of bareback bronco riding! He got thrown a few times but learned a ton of valuable things and made some great friends! He is considering returning in December to get some more practice in. He looks absolutely majestic.
