The Tiny Home

Wow, so sorry for the absence but things have been rolling faster than we can keep up! Let’s fill you in. Last time we left off on the clearing of the front yard, going through and cleaning the old storage shed, and getting things ready for the next step. That next step being the Tiny Home!

Jaken’s dad has an old hunting trailer that he used to have out at the old deer lease. It is a 200 sqft, two room, tan trailer home that was previously used as a small business office. Its got a bedroom with a built in dresser. The main living space functions as a kitchen, dining room, and lounge space. There is a little counter top with a double sink, two upper cabinets, three lower cabinets, and four drawers. A cut out portion fits a little mini fridge and there is a cute window above the sink. The whole place can be cooled with just two small window AC units. A small bathroom has been added which includes a stand up shower, toiler, and upper cabinets.

Jaken’s dad has decked the place out with a fun rustic theme which involves lots of wood, drawer pulls in the shape of bullet casings, and even a shelf with horseshoe hooks for the old antique shotgun (no longer functional but adds a very hunter-y vibe). There are art pieces depicting hunting dogs on mantles and convenient hooks and shelves to maximize storage and functionality. Everyone keeps telling us we are crazy to want to move our entire lives into this tiny and humble abode but we are going to do it anyway.

We get the trailer hooked up to ole Forky and pulled it out of its resting place at Jeremy’s house. They hook it up to the tuck and pull it to the ranch. There is a perfect little spot where it can be tucked just out of sight of the road but still close enough to hook up to the electricity. The guys got it parked, leveled, and connected to the electricity. With fingers crossed we turned on the breaker and attempted to start the window units. Luckily everything started up right away and started to cool the small space. Success! One less thing to worry about. We got in there and wiped all the walls down, swept the floors, and got things as clean as we could to prepare to move our things in. The next weekend we would continue the move.

A week passed and we got our new bed frame, mattress, and bedding in so we loaded up the trailer and brought everything we could fit to the ranch. We brought our small breakfast table and chairs, couch, a couple TVs, and box of kitchen things. We bought an electric cook top and toaster oven to use to cook in the little kitchen and ordered some rugs. After getting all of those things set up in the trailer its starting to feel like a proper home! After several trips over the next couple of weeks we got the majority of the big house cleaned out and what we needed stored into the old storage shed.

Jaken and his dad and Grandpa all got together and built a fantastic outside porch roof on the front of the trailer which essentially doubled the usable space. We added out patio furniture and some cute string lights to liven it up as well. They also dug a line from the old well over to the trailer to hook up the water so we officially have running water! The only essential thing not hooked up is the septic which I will leave the rest of that to your imagination but it involves a bucket…

All of this hard work and about a month later we are finally out here 100% and our city home is listed on the market!! Fingers crossed we get a buyer!
