The Waco Weekend
We have started a yearly trip to Waco with Jaken’s mom, stepdad, sister, and brother-in-law and this year we were not about to change that. So the beginning of October we loaded up ourselves and baby Hope and hit the road. We arrived to our usual Airbnb around 9:30 pm after a mostly uneventful ride up there thankfully. Everyone else had already gotten settled in so we unloaded and visited for a bit before everyone hit they hay in preparation for the early morning activities.
When we all awoke we ate some delicious breakfast tacos that Jaken’s mother made before getting ready and heading out the door. Our first stop was the Magnolia Silos because I saw a spoon online that I desperately needed as well as a quick stop at the bakery for some cupcakes. We managed to not get hit with too many lines and were able to get in and out rather quickly. We had been before and Hope was napping away so no super cute pictures got to happen with her.
Our next stop of course was Common Grounds. The local coffee shop next to Baylor University that sells a delightful Dr. Pepper concoction as well as coffees made with their “special sauce” which we suspect is really a bunch of sugar but not complaining one bit. Hope was able to get her own little tiny “coffee” which she thoroughly enjoyed (was just tea). We ate out cupcakes and took a little break before heading out.
After that we popped over to Baylor University to walk the campus and get Hope some Baylor gear for the football game. She got to say hello to the Baylor mascots in their bear habitat and made sure we got her posing very cutely with the Baylor sign. She really knows how to interact with the camera. We made a stop by the cafeteria that looks like Hogwarts and grabbed some more photos before saying hello to the dorm rooms where Jaken’s sister and brother in law lived and got engaged at. A nice little walk down memory lane.
By this time Hope was ready for her next nap and we were starving and ready for lunch. We headed back towards the bnb and grabbed some BBQ from ____. We got brisket, pork, and some of the best brussel sprouts we’ve ever had. They put smoked sour cream and candied pecans on them! So good and a recipe we definitely have already repeated at home. Hope got some mac and cheese for when she awoke before we returned to the bnb where we turned on the game and relaxed.
We swapped channels between the Baylor and Sam Houston games until we were sure our teams were going to win before taking the party down to the Brazos river that the bnb backs up to. Jaken’s step dad is very into fishing so he usually spends a lot of time down there when we come so we hiked down to see where he had wandered off to and to let Hope play with the pebbles. Jaken taught her to skip rocks and we took some more cute photos of her.
After a long day of exploring we ended the evening with board games and good conversation before hitting the hay. The next day we packed up for home and headed out but not before stopping for a Dichotomy coffee and In n Out burgers. We made the long trek home with another successful family Waco Weekend under our belts.
